Visa requirements vary among the Central Asian countries. Kazakhstan requires an entry form to be filled out on arrival, with no special visa application needed; Turkmenistan requires an invitation letter and a visa on arrival, and DeWonder Travel will assist travellers with the arrangements to ensure a smooth entry. However, local immigration authorities are currently unable to process visas for BNO and Macao SAR passports. Central Asia relies mainly on cash transactions. Travellers are advised to exchange US dollars in Hong Kong first, then exchange local currency at the airport or city centre upon arrival. Note that local exchanges may reject old or damaged US banknotes, so please ensure the notes are intact when exchanging. Some local shops accept payment in US dollars, so it is advisable to carry a small amount of US dollar change for emergencies.

The usability of credit cards and ATM cards varies by country. UnionPay ATM cards only work in Kazakhstan, while ATM cards on the PLUS/Cirrus networks can be used in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. However, ATMs in cities are relatively few, and not all shops accept credit card payment, so it is advisable to carry sufficient cash. ATM cards and credit cards cannot be used in Turkmenistan, where all transactions must be paid in cash.

Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are all predominantly Islamic countries, but local women are not required to wear headscarves. Some mosques have dress requirements—men and women must cover their shoulders and knees, and women must cover their hair—so it is advisable to carry a headscarf for emergencies. Some areas have more relaxed rules, where covering with a jacket hood is also acceptable.

The internet environment varies among the Central Asian countries. Turkmenistan has more internet restrictions, with WhatsApp, WeChat, Facebook and Instagram all blocked, and only Google and Google Maps available. Recommended VPN apps locally include LetsVPN, NPV Tunnel and VPN EXPRESS (all paid services), but VPN connections are unstable and there is no guarantee they will work. Local communication is usually done via Skype, which does not require a VPN. Most hotels provide free Wi-Fi, but connection speeds are slow, and there is no signal on highways and in remote areas. If you wish to purchase a local data plan, the cost is about 30 USD—please notify us in advance so we can assist with arrangements.

The five Central Asian countries are currently politically stable, with good safety conditions for travellers. Tourism in destinations such as Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan is well established — these are not war zones or high-risk areas. Throughout the journey we arrange a local team familiar with the roads and languages to accompany you, and we monitor the latest safety information daily to ensure your peace of mind.

Communication in Central Asia is mostly in Russian or local languages, and English is less widely spoken. However, we arrange English/Chinese-speaking tour leaders throughout, together with local guides fluent in the regional languages, to handle all communication and sightseeing — so you can immerse yourself in the local culture with ease and without any language barrier.

Because Central Asia covers vast distances, some itineraries involve long journeys, but we break the drives into segments and combine them with:

• Scenic stops along the way (such as pottery villages, markets or lakes)
• Daily drives kept mainly within 3–4 hours, with comfortable private vehicles
• Domestic flights on certain legs to ease the fatigue of travel

This itinerary is designed as a "cultural exploration" experience, with ample rest time each day and avoiding consecutive high-intensity activities. Most older travellers can complete the trip comfortably; if you have any special physical requirements, please let us know in advance. Our journeys also include flexible free time, which is marked in each day's itinerary before departure so travellers can adjust their level of participation as they wish.

Central Asian cuisine mainly features grilled meats, pilaf, yoghurt and various baked breads, with vegetarian options also available. Larger cities offer Chinese, Korean and Western restaurants to choose from, so most travellers will find it easy to adapt.
