Corrupt the Youth x DeWonder "Freedom from Suffering, Attaining Bliss — An Introduction to Japanese Buddhism" Talk

Buddhism flourishes in Japan, and temples can be seen everywhere in places like Kyoto and Nara. But what many people may not know is that Japan actually has different Buddhist sects, each with its own distinctive doctrines and paths of practice. The characteristics of these sects are reflected not only in the design of temples and Buddhist statues, but also in aspects such as the tea ceremony, flower arrangement, dry landscape gardens, temple architecture and aesthetics. Understanding Japanese Buddhism means that, on your next trip back, you can appreciate the cultural and religious side of Japan from a deeper perspective.

In this talk, Hung Yan and Bak Shui will start from early Buddhism, first explaining its basic concepts and the life philosophy of "freedom from suffering," then exploring how Buddhist thought is embodied in temple design and the art of Buddhist statues, guiding everyone from the temples into the spiritual world of Japanese culture.
