We all know Picasso's name, but not everyone is familiar with his artistic journey and personal life. This time, M+ is presenting over 60 treasures from the Musée national Picasso-Paris — the first Picasso-themed exhibition in Hong Kong in over a decade. We are teaming up with columnist and cultural critic Thomas Shin to lead a guided tour, appreciating Picasso's original works and examining his long-controversial personality, among other aspects. The exhibits span multiple phases of Picasso's creative career, including the Blue Period, Cubism and sculpture. Besides classic masterpieces such as "Portrait of a Man" and "Portrait of Dora Maar," there is also the Paris museum's overlooked gem "Reading the Letter," and the rare "Massacre in Korea," which directly references Asia. M+ will also display alongside these around 130 works by various Asian artists — pieces that respond to Picasso's creations in subject matter, technique or style, exploring his influence on Asian art. How should we understand Picasso's art and his character, and how do his works "dialogue" with those of later generations? Thomas Shin's guided tour will get to know this renowned master from the following angles: Why is Picasso regarded as the cornerstone of modern art? Which period was his pivotal stage?
