Trip Overview

[Why Journey to Antarctica with Us?]

On this expedition, the DeWonder Travel team ventures deep into Antarctica's world of ice and snow to explore this magnificent yet fragile ecosystem. Along the way, we observe a wide array of wildlife such as penguins, seals and whales, gaining a deeper understanding of the roles these species play within the ecosystem and their significance, while examining the threats that climate change poses to Antarctica's unique environment and biodiversity.

[Led by Silversea Cruises]

As a pioneer of the world's top luxury expedition voyages, Silversea Cruises brings over 30 years of maritime experience and is dedicated to perfectly blending "ultimate luxury" with "polar expedition." Silversea operates a modern fleet purpose-built for exploration, with every ship equipped with the highest-grade polar ice-resistant technology. The expedition team comprises up to 28 world-class experts, including marine biologists, glaciologists, historians and nature photographers, all of whom not only hold the STCW international maritime safety certification but must also pass rigorous professional assessments and complete ongoing practical training.

Beyond its iconic polar cruising, Silversea offers a full range of immersive experiences such as Zodiac expeditions, polar kayaking, tundra hiking and the challenging polar plunge. Throughout the journey, the expert team shares profound insights into geology, ornithology and local culture through daily lectures and workshops. And after each shore adventure, you can return to the ship to enjoy its signature all-suite butler service and premium dining—experiencing comfort and elegance while exploring the ends of the earth.

How do you get to Antarctica? What is the recommended flight route?

Silversea's Antarctica itineraries are designed around a core philosophy of "saving time and maximising comfort," offering a range of options to avoid rough seas:

  • Meeting point: All voyages assemble in Chile's capital,Santiago .
  • Exclusive charter flight: We arrange an exclusive charter flight from Santiago directly to Puerto Williams.
  • Fly-over option (Antarctica Air-Bridge): 6-day express itinerary: Offering a Fly-in/Fly-out option, flying directly from Chile to King George Island to board the ship, completely skipping the rolling swells of the Drake Passage.
  • 9-day in-depth itinerary: Offering a Fly-in/Sail-out option, balancing the convenience of flying with the classic sailing experience.
How does Silversea's crew-to-guest ratio differ from other companies?

This is an advantage that Silversea takes great pride in.Silver Endeavour Hosting just 220 guests, yet staffed with 207 crew members,a crew-to-guest ratio of up to 1:1,the highest in the Antarctic expedition fleet. This means that even at the ends of the earth, you can still enjoy the meticulous care and butler service of a private European estate.

What is the season and temperature like in Antarctica?

The Antarctic travel season falls mainly during the Southern Hemisphere summer from November to February, with November offering the following features:

  • More comfortable temperatures, ranging from around -5 to 5 degrees
  • It is the season when penguins mate and build their nests
  • Fewer visitors, allowing more time to admire the glaciers and diverse wildlife

To cope with changing weather, we will provide:

  • Polar parkas
  • 24-hour medical support is available on board
  • The ship is equipped with stabilisers to reduce the impact of wind and waves
In case of seasickness or illness on board, how is it handled?

Silversea Cruises Silver Endeavour In addition to an advanced stabilisation and balance system, the ship is also equipped witha professional medical centre and a 24-hour onboard doctor . Your butler can provide anti-seasickness support at any time, ensuring every guest feels secure and at ease throughout the voyage.

Will we see penguins?

Penguins are spotted on almost every voyage, so there's no need to worry—though sightings are of course subject to seasonal factors. Please note, however, that as this involves observing wildlife, while we do our utmost to arrange the best viewing opportunities, we cannot fully guarantee that a specific penguin species will be seen.

Is Antarctica very cold? What should I wear?

Outdoor temperatures in Antarctica vary greatly, so we recommend dressing in layers:

  • Indoors: The cruise ship has climate-controlled heating, so light, casual clothing (long sleeves and trousers) with non-slip closed-toe shoes will suffice.
  • Outdoors: 1. Base layer: Moisture-wicking, breathable garments (thermal underwear). 2. Mid layer: A warm fleece or a light down jacket. 3. Outer layer: A professional waterproof and windproof jacket (most cruise operators provide a dedicated parka).
  • Accessories: Waterproof trousers, warm socks, gloves, a beanie, and sunglasses with a very high UV protection rating.
Do I need a visa to travel to Antarctica?

Travellers holding a Hong Kong SAR passport (HKSAR) currently enjoy visa-free entry to the meeting point in Chile. You only need to ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your date of departure, and have a return ticket ready for immigration inspection.

Note: If you hold a passport from another country (such as a BNO), we recommend consulting the relevant consulate before departure or checking with our experts.

What currency is used in Antarctica?

Antarctica has no official currency. Transactions on board the cruise are generally conducted in US dollars (USD), and the cruise also accepts credit cards. However, we recommend bringing a reasonable amount of cash for unexpected needs.

Can I access the internet on board the cruise?

Yes. As a 6-star luxury cruise, the tour fee for Silversea Cruises usually already includes basic Satellite WiFi Service . Although Antarctica is remote, the Silver Endeavouris equipped with advanced satellite facilities, allowing you to share the wonders of the polar regions with family and friends anytime.
