Trip Overview
This form of cruising can be traced back to the 1950s, pioneered by Swan Hellenic. At the time, the British travel agency Swan’s Tours organised a ground-breaking journey for members of the Hellenic Society, leading them—accompanied by renowned scholars—to explore the historic sites of ancient Greece. The journey was a great success, and Swan Hellenic went on to develop more voyages themed around cultural and intellectual exchange, inviting writers, scholars and clergy to serve as onboard lecturers, pioneering a distinctive style of travel that combined scholarship with exploration.
Unlike ordinary commercial cruises, Swan Hellenic has, since its founding, insisted on never repeating the same itinerary, travelling to unique, little-known destinations and giving guests the opportunity to explore places most travellers have never even heard of. Over time, Swan Hellenic has become renowned worldwide for its bold and inspiring itinerary design, exclusive scholar-led lectures and elegant, comfortable onboard experience. Today, after more than seventy years, it is precisely this extraordinary charm—blending the spirit of exploration with cultural depth—that continues to inspire and attract travellers from all over the world.
