FAQ
What's included in the cost of a DeWonder Arctic tour?
The cost includes travel to the Arctic aboard Quark Expeditions' 199-passenger mid-sized ship Ultramarine departing from Reykjavík, Iceland, with a 1:6 guide-to-guest ratio, a guaranteed 2 landing activities per day (weather and ice conditions permitting), exploration of Iceland, and three meals a day. You may also join additional activities at your own expense, such as an Inuit cultural table experience, kayaking, and sea canoeing. Airfare from your home to Iceland is at your own expense.
Is there free time to explore during the itinerary?
On the afternoon of Day 1 there is free time in Reykjavík, where you can explore the world's northernmost capital.
What are the season and temperatures like in Iceland?
In July the weather in Iceland is mild, with temperatures around 8°C to 14°C, which is the height of summer.
Is Iceland very cold? What should I wear?
July is the height of summer in Iceland, but temperatures remain fairly low, with strong winds and frequent rain. The cruise ship is heated and the interior is warm, so travellers can wear comfortable casual clothing, such as lightweight shirts, trousers or jeans. In addition, for safety reasons, non-slip, well-fitting closed-toe shoes must be worn on board (no flip-flops, sandals or loose-fitting footwear are allowed) to ensure safety when walking.
What currency is used in Iceland? Can I use credit cards or electronic payment?
Iceland's official currency is the Icelandic Króna. Transactions aboard the cruise ship Ultramarine are generally conducted in US dollars (USD), and the ship also accepts credit cards, but it is advisable to bring an appropriate amount of cash for unexpected needs.
What are the advantages of a cruise circumnavigation compared with a self-drive circumnavigation?
The cruise is like a "mobile hotel," letting you circle the corners of Iceland while you sleep, with no need to drive or carry luggage yourself. Combined with ample all-day dining, it turns tedious itinerary planning into pure enjoyment.
What should I do if I get seasick or fall ill on board?
There are comprehensive medical support arrangements on board:
- A medical team is on duty 24 hours a day and can provide immediate assistance to ease seasickness discomfort
- Before departure, we recommend:
- Consult your personal physician first
- Prepare medication for seasickness
Is internet available on board the cruise?
Yes. The Ultramarine cruise provides 5 GB of free data; usage beyond 5 GB requires an additional purchase (US$30–40 per GB). However, please note that we sail to one of the most remote regions on Earth, so internet connectivity relies on satellite equipment and may experience weakened signals or brief interruptions.
What voltage and socket types are used on board?
Information regarding the socket types and voltage specifications available on board will be provided at the pre-departure briefing—please refer to it at that time.
Do I need a visa to travel to Iceland?
Travellers holding a Hong Kong SAR passport (HKSAR) may enter Iceland visa-free, with no additional visa required. Travellers should ensure their passport is valid for at least 6 months and have a return ticket ready for immigration inspection.
