All five Central Asian nations were once Soviet republics with deeply intertwined histories, yet after independence they took remarkably different paths, and their cultures and landscapes each differ. Uzbekistan, less touched by globalisation, has beautifully preserved its ancient Silk Road palaces and monasteries; with locals often dressed in traditional robes, travelling there feels like stepping back in time.
Turkmenistan is one of the lesser-known of the five Central Asian nations. Since its founding president, it has pursued a policy of isolation, making it far from easy for outsiders to visit and lending it an air of endless mystery. The giant fire crater in the desert, the "Gates of Hell", is a world-class wonder that many travellers flock to see. Equally conservative and closed-off, neighbouring Tajikistan is renowned for its majestic, beautiful mountain scenery and its rich Persian and Ottoman imperial history and culture. A journey to Tajikistan lets you witness the country's vital role on the Silk Road from ancient times to today, as well as the profound cultural fusion the Silk Road brought. Kyrgyzstan is relatively open among the five, hailed as the "Switzerland of Central Asia", boasting alpine lakes such as the famous Lake Issyk-Kul and a unique traditional nomadic culture.
Kazakhstan, the largest of the five Central Asian nations, is also the most economically developed and has devoted itself to modernisation in recent years. Its capital, Astana, blends Islamic, Soviet-modern and traditional styles into a distinctive architecture, and together with the towering peaks of the Tian Shan mountains, it is a not-to-be-missed destination. Included
- ✓Economy-class airfare from Bangkok, Thailand to Ashgabat (including all taxes and surcharges)
- ✓Turkmenistan tourist visa and Tajikistan tourist visa **if applicable
- ✓All local transport during the itinerary, with a tour coach throughout (except during free time), also including domestic flights and trains
- ✓Double-room hotel accommodation locally during the itinerary, on a two-persons-sharing basis (single-room upgrade available at a surcharge of HKD 750 per night)
- ✓All meals locally during the itinerary (breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, except during free time)
- ✓Local tour guide accompanying the group
- ✓At least one DeWonder Travel in-depth tour leader leading the group
- ✓Admission fees to all attractions during the itinerary (except during free time)
- ✓Central Asia information pack, Central Asia travel notes and related reading materials compiled by experts and the DeWonder Travel team
- ✓A stamp duty equivalent to 0.15% of the tour fee, to obtain the protection of the "Travel Industry Compensation Fund" and the "Package Tour Accident Contingency Fund Scheme"

- ✕Uzbekistan visa fee (holders of HKSAR passports enjoy 10-day visa-free entry for tourism to Uzbekistan) **if applicable
- ✕Round-trip airfare between your place of residence and the meeting and dismissal points
- ✕Additional personal spending (meals during free time, food and drinks, activities outside the itinerary and souvenirs)
- ✕Tips for the tour leader, local guides and drivers, at a minimum of USD 20 per day
- ✕Travel Insurance
Additional Notes
- During the tour, the local guide will give commentary in English, while the in-depth tour leader will explain in Cantonese. If needed, the tour leader can also provide supplementary commentary in English or Mandarin.
- If the hotels specified in the above itinerary are unavailable, we will arrange accommodation of an equivalent standard.
- The local guide may adjust the itinerary according to circumstances. Should any part of the itinerary be unable to proceed as scheduled, our team will do its utmost to provide the best alternative arrangements.
