FAQ
What is the climate like in Egypt?
Egypt is located in North Africa, where there is a large difference between day and night temperatures. Daytime can be hot, but temperatures drop sharply after nightfall, and it may even feel cold. We recommend bringing a windproof jacket, long-sleeved clothing, long trousers and similar items to adapt to the local weather changes and ensure a comfortable journey.
Do I need a visa to travel to Egypt?
Currently, holders of a Hong Kong or Macau SAR passportmayvisa-freeenter Egypt and stay for 90 days without applying for a visa in advance, and can enter directly.
Is it safe to travel to Egypt?
Egypt is, on the whole, a relatively safe travel destination, but near famous tourist attractions there are inevitably scammers and thieves who target travellers. So when shopping or sightseeing in crowded places, you should keep an eye on your personal belongings at all times, avoid displaying valuables, and try to avoid going out alone at night. You should also research carefully when shopping and bargain when appropriate. Some local strangers may approach you or enthusiastically offer to guide you; we recommend ignoring approaches from strangers on the street and not readily following strangers to their home. If you need directions, we suggest asking nearby shopkeepers or hotel staff to ensure your safety. Some of Egypt's alleyways are intricate and confusing, and Google Maps may not be accurate enough. We recommend downloading the maps.me offline map in advance so you can navigate without an internet connection.
What are the dress requirements in Egypt?
Egypt is an Islamic country, but its customs are relatively free and open, and there are no overly strict rules on clothing. However, as a traveller, it is still very important to respect the local culture and religious customs. In most places, women do not need to wear a headscarf, but we recommend wearing long sleeves, long trousers or long skirts, and avoiding vests and shorts. You should also not wear sandals or slippers, and should avoid exposing your shoulders, ankles or the back of your neck.
Do I need vaccinations to enter Egypt?
Currently, there are no mandatory vaccination requirements for travelling to Egypt from Hong Kong or Macau, and there is no need to present proof of yellow fever or other vaccinations. If you have any special health conditions, we recommend consulting your family doctor or a travel clinic before departure.
Please note that if you are travelling to Egypt from elsewhere, departing from a high-risk yellow fever area, or transiting through an airport in such an area for more than 12 hours, you will need to carry proof of vaccination.
What currency is used in Egypt? Can I use credit cards there?
The currency used in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). Large hotels, restaurants, and some shops accept international credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard, but transactions at traditional markets (souks) or small vendors are mostly cash-based. We recommend bringing Euros or US Dollars for your personal expenses; upon arrival, we will arrange for you to exchange Egyptian Pounds at the airport or in the city for everyday use.
What language is spoken in Egypt? Is it easy to communicate in English?
The official language of Egypt is Arabic, though English is also widely used. Basic communication in English poses little difficulty at tourist hotspots and hotels. However, in old city markets or remote areas, locals' English proficiency is more limited, and our local guides and tour leaders will assist with basic communication as needed.
What is transportation like in Egypt?
Travel between cities is mainly by comfortable tour coaches, with journey times depending on distance and road conditions. Egypt's lanes are narrow, and some areas may require walking to enter and exit.
What are Egyptian dining customs like? Are there options suitable for vegetarians?
Egypt is renowned for signature dishes such as Koshary, grilled meats, and shawarma—rich in flavour yet naturally spiced. Most restaurants offer vegetarian options such as fava bean dishes and bean stews. If you have special dietary needs, such as vegan, gluten-free, or food allergies, please inform us in advance when registering, and we will help make arrangements.Throughout the journey, we will also do our best to arrange a variety of dining experiences, including Western restaurants, authentic Egyptian cuisine, and Chinese food.
