In-Depth Mongolia: Galloping Across the Land of Blue Sky

Mongolia, known as the "Land of Blue Sky," stretches beneath a vast, boundless azure heaven where lush green grasslands roll on endlessly, ranges of mountains meet across countless miles, and the wind bows the grass to reveal grazing cattle and sheep. Journey south to the great desert and you'll find sweeping sand dunes and swirling dust as far as the eye can see; there are also magnificent river valleys with cascading waterfalls, and lakes as calm as mirrors. The land of Mongolia is immense, its scenery ever-changing, harbouring natural treasures across mountains and rivers beyond counting. This vast territory has nurtured a unique nomadic civilisation, whose people migrate in search of water and pasture, unable to settle in one place—let alone farm the land—and so live by herding alone. With no fixed abode, they dwell in gers that can be dismantled at any moment, spending their lives galloping across the grasslands, the sky their blanket and the earth their mat—truly free and unfettered.

This journey takes you deep into Mongolia: strolling through Terelj National Park to admire Mongolia's natural landscapes; riding camels across the dunes of the Bayan Gobi; venturing into the Orkhon Valley to uncover the origins of a thousand-year-old nomadic civilisation; visiting Mongolia's ancient capital Karakorum to reflect on the rise and fall of empires; and exploring Hustai National Park to observe the endangered wild Mongolian horse. Beyond the rural natural scenery, we will of course visit Mongolia's modern capital Ulaanbaatar, exploring an urban landscape where contemporary architecture intertwines with historic palaces, and gaining insight into Mongolia's modern development.

More than sightseeing, in-depth interaction with the locals is also a highlight of the trip. Step into a ger and be a guest of a nomadic family, experience the daily work of nomadic life—milking cattle, shearing sheep, cooking traditional cuisine, and making dairy products with your own hands. Become an "anda" (sworn friend) with the local herders and feel the warm, generous hospitality of Mongolia.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Mongolia has a short spring and summer (May to August) and a long autumn and winter (September to the following April). Spring and summer enjoy abundant sunshine and pleasantly warm weather, making them the peak travel season; in autumn and winter, strong winds and heavy snow arrive and lakes freeze into thick ice, offering a completely different scene. Please note that the weather in Mongolia is changeable throughout all four seasons, with frequent strong winds and large temperature differences between day and night, so keeping warm is essential.
